Wedding trends 2013: Chalkboard wedding decor and details

2013 is shaping up to be quite an exciting new wedding season full of fun new trends and unique wedding ideas. One of the trends we’re loving in particular is incorporating chalkboards or chalkboard-like artwork into your wedding details and decor. No longer just for outdated classrooms and arithmetic problems, chalkboards lend a rustic and whimsical vibe to any wedding – and given the multitude of ways to use chalkboards, literally anyone can incorporate it into their wedding celebration.

We’ve found our favorite ways so far this season that people have used chalkboards; from invitations to placemats to photobooth backdrops, the possibilities for this fun and artsy touch are endless! Are you incorporating chalkboards into your wedding day?

Chalkboards are great for paper invites – there are tons of options these days on paper goods and stationery retailers for chalk-themed save the dates, invites, and thank you notes.

Write out the story of your love with a timeline, or assign seating with a chalkboard seating charts or place mats. Of course, chalkboards are great for writing out menus, drinks and elements of a dessert bar (and just wait till you see what one awesome party did for their dessert bar!).

This is a particularly easy and meaningful way to combine old family photos and chalk art into creative wedding decor. This couple took an old windowpane, added a chalkboard to half, and hung photographs of loved relatives who passed away before the wedding day. So sweet!

Chalkboard are an easy way to incorporate even more fun into your photo booths! Have guests write out advice on a chalkboard at your photo booth, and hold the sign up as they take their picture. Or, go an extra mile (or two) and create a gorgeous chalkboard backdrop!

Lastly, you can say “thanks” to guests by prompting them to take souvenirs with a simple chalkboard sign, or by incorporating chalk-art like touches to their favors.
