The choice of bridesmaids is the key to the success of the wedding. One of my female friends went as far to say she was going to have top secret bridesmaids for a drama-free day. Yes ladies, your bridesmaids must realize that it is about you, and your (reasonable) demands must be met. As my bridesmaid bestie, Crystal, quipped “If you want us wearing something ugly (think lime green organza), hey that picture will be on your mantelpiece, not mine.”
It wasn’t hard for me to choo-choo-choose my bridesmaids as they have all been in my small circle of friends for years. I knew I wanted to formally propose to my lady friends once the time came, so I scoured blogs and Etsy for ideas. You have to show appreciation to your girl friends, right? Otherwise, who can you complain to about your fiance’s inability to read your mind?
At first, I was chalk out of ideas and picked out a ring pop and a cute card for my first proposal. However, me and my first recipient, Cheryl, were in Miami so it was still girl-mantic.
When I returned and went on a Lakefront run, it dawned on me. Not only do I have amazing friends, but my bridesmaid choices were so fantastic that we could be a superhero team — no, wait! — super special ops, like the A Team, or nay, the B Team! (Bridesmaids people, not female dogs).
I Googled spy themed parties to search for ideas. Then came the easy part. I watermarked stock card paper with a “Confidential” image and typed up their nicknames, special powers and unique things I love about them. The finishing touch was a Print and Cut disguise kit, designed by Jen Allyson, that I slipped into a unsuspecting manila envelope with the Secret Agent Profile.
Some agents went the extra mile and demonstrated their new look.

I have 6 elite super spies on my team! (Names may have been changed to protect the not so innocent.)
Cheryl (proposed in Miami): Will tell you when your dress pick reminds her of a swamp monster, and will win in a dance to the death competition.
Jenny (proposed in Memphis): Can reinvent any space, is a photographic genius and has wood burning skills for torturing…or for making keepsakes.
Theresa (proposed over brunch, yum!): Has sniper photo skills used for blackmailing, and can make you laugh by sending you a shot that you’d like to forget.
Crystal (proposed via pigeon mail to LA): Can find anything and anyone in the internet, just gave me two new cool bride websites and is our team medic. If I faint, she’s got it covered.
And the two Maids of Honor Oscars went to:
My fetus buddy, aka my older sister, Lilah (proposed in Madison), the artist and broker of peace for any warring family members, and…
Monica (proposed at a tasty vegetarian lunch), organizer of all splinter cell secret meetings and photography documentation.
Monica confirming her allegiance!
They all said yes (as there was no check box for no) and so far, they have braved a few challenges with me, such as the daunting bridal expo…more on that later.
The best part of having these gal pals has not only been the emotional support but also the knowledge that I have a sexy bunch of culturally diverse ladies to surround me in my pictures. Perhaps I should choose lime green organza so I can up my social profile.
Me and a few of my cute chicas (see what I’m dealing with??)
