We are beyond excited to share with you an amazing and unique wedding today, readers. It’s the perfect pretty celebration to help all of us start our week out right. A Wedding Party blog reader and recent bride, Iulia Groves, contacted us not too long ago to share photos from her special day with us. Needless to say, we were touched we could help inspire her wedding.
Of course we leapt at the chance to share Iulia’s gorgeous photos with you all, so here they are! Set in the lush and romantic Mogosoaia Palace in Bucharest, Romania, Iulia and her husband’s wedding day was something out of a fairy tale with gorgeous flower-filled decor, twinkling lights, and even a ride in a hot air balloon! Iulia’s special day was truly a breathtaking celebration that can only be described as perfect.
From the Bride: We got married last year, at the beginning of August, in Bucharest, Romania. I am not one of those girls who would keep a wedding scrapbook since they were 12, with their perfect marriage details, so getting engaged was something very odd at first. We had no idea how to organize a wedding, we just knew that most of the traditional weddings are sometimes boring for the people involved, since there is no novelty in the way people organize them around here. So we decided we make a big party rather than a wedding, or at least we told ourselves that, to get some of the pressure off.
You could say that we got most of the inspiration from our own life, we used the music, the designs and the atmosphere that you would find in our house really. For example, right now I am really interested in botanical illustrations, therefore I used an antique botanical illustration for our invitations. I guess I loved the way it was illustrated and I wanted to mark this stage of my life by incorporating it in the wedding somehow. My “online inspirations” were beautiful blogs like the wedding party, once wed, or the lovely Ginny Branch’s site.
Because I am a designer, I could visualize the set design but had no idea how to actually put everything together in time. Luckily, my husband is a film director and had all the contacts necessary to help me organize. In fact, this was among our first big collaborations, since we don’t usually work together. We had this lovely, amazing and talented team of set designers who turned all the wedding plans into reality, built everything custom for the location, even a 100 people long table with amazing light garlands hanging above. With Anton’s perfect frame orientations, the art crew’s dedicated help and my scenography details the wedding looked like a film set. We choose an outdoor location (mosquito spray included ), the Mogosoaia Palace Gardens. Five trees served as our altar and the garden was our dancing ring.
I am extremely grateful that our families supported our wedding ideas and helped with the flowers, the cake design and getting everything ready for the big day.
One of my fondest moments from the wedding is being on one end of the long table, talking to my friends, when all of a sudden this song comes on, something of Barry White’s I think, so I raise my eyes thinking, wow, this is a cheesy wedding song, and see Anton from across the table, who has the exact same expression as I do, like “what is up with this cheesy song at our party?”. Our eyes lock, then we both burst into laughter, exactly the same way we do when we are at random parties and a funny song comes on.
Usually I try not to give advice, but some months before the wedding I got this very good advice from a family member, it was: “Good luck with the wedding planning, and remember that is also a part of the wedding, once in a lifetime, so do try to enjoy it!”
We hope you enjoyed seeing Iulia’s special day as much as we enjoyed sharing with you lovely readers! Her and her husband’s celebration is definitely inspiring to us in so many ways, and hopefully you find some special inspiration here for your own wedding. Let us know your favorite parts in the comments!
