Imagine this: while dancing the night away at your friends’ wedding reception, you realize that you need to touch up your makeup with blotting papers and apply a little extra hairspray to your ‘do. However, you didn’t bring either of these products with you. In an attempt to find someone that potentially did pack emergency items, you head straight to the ladies room and much to your surprise, there is a basket full of amenities sitting on the vanity with a note from the bride and groom that says to help yourself to whatever you need. What a thoughtful and night-saving gesture, right?
At nearly every wedding, guests often need some must-have products that they forgot to pack or cannot bring along to the reception. Putting together his and hers bathroom essentials baskets will not only be helpful to your guests, but it also is an easy and relatively inexpensive way to acknowledge your guests that have traveled near and far to celebrate your big day and to make them feel welcome and taken care-of.
So, what products should you include in the baskets? Consider anything that you and your guests may want in an emergency or in a pinch to quickly freshen up before dinner or during a night of dancing. Don’t forget to purchase two of each product to include in both the men’s and ladies basket.
For the budget-savvy bride, include only these essential toiletry items, all of which can be purchased at your local dollar store or in the travel section of a major retailer, such as Target or Wal-Mart:
- Ibuprofen, $1
- Tums, $1
- Band-Aids, $1
- Contact lens solution, $3
- Aerosol deodorant (aerosol is best since multiple people potentially could use it!), $1
- Hand lotion, $1
- Colgate Wisps (disposable toothbrushes), $3
- Floss, $1
- Q-tips, $1
- Hairspray, $1
- Safety pins, $1
- Shout wipes or Tide-to-Go pen, $1
- Lint brush, $1
- Mints, $1
Total per basket: $18
There are endless possibilities and products that you can choose to include or not include in the baskets. If you are working with a bigger budget, consider pampering your female guests and include these nice-to-have items in the ladies basket:
- Feminine hygiene products (tampons, pads, etc.), $4
- Hair comb or brush, $1
- Hair elastics, $1
- Bobby pins, $1
- Nail file, $1
- Travel manicure kit, $1
- Nail polish remover, $2
- Blotting papers, $2
- Makeup remover wipes, $4
Total for ladies basket add-ons: $17
As a finishing touch, add a thank you note from the newlyweds or a cute poem to go with the baskets. It will pull the whole project together and will be fun for your guests to read and enjoy.
There are several poem templates available online that you can use word-for-word or personally cater to fit your wedding theme and the contents of your baskets. After you decide on what wording you’d like to use, you can type it up in Microsoft Word and print the sign on regular computer paper or printer-friendly cardstock using your own printer. Then, simply cut the sign down to the size of the photo frame you’ve decided to use and ta-dah! You’ve created a simple, but effective treat that will make your guests feel like a million bucks.
